THE ARCH OF THE BELVEDERE

Trademark of the town of Cherasco, the Belvedere Arch was built between 1647 and 1688 to a design by Giovenale Boetto and with the collaboration of the entire population.

It was the time of Vittorio Amedeo I of Savoia, when the entire court took refuge in Cherasco, which, thanks to its imposing walls, managed to escape the plague that was afflicting the whole area in 1630.

The original wooden statues were replaced with the current terracotta ones during the 19th century, while the central group was carved out of marble.
