RAILWAY MUSEUM

The Piedmontese Railway Museum dates back to the beginning of 1978 but it was not until in the 1990's that the city of Savigliano offered to host the Museum, granting the land free of charge and guaranteeing an economic contribution destined for the first phase of the construction of the exhibition center. Not surprinsingly, Savigliano was already home to the most important train factory of the time, a factory that gave birth to the "pendolino", exported all over the world.

The area granted to the Museum also has the great advantage of being located on a railway line, which has allowed an easier transportation of the vehicles and the extraordinary possibility of keeping some of them active and working, on the occasion of particular events or visits.

In 2001 a first part of the exhibition was opened to the public and between 2004 and 2009 the first canopies were added to cover the "rotunda", a rotating platform with radiating tracks connected to it.

Today the exhibition is divided into several sections, an internal part dedicated to models and models of various eras and an external part equipped with numerous trains, locomotives and trains, some of which are fully functional.

These wonderful pieces of history are managed and regularly restored by volunteers.
